Fishin' Fishin' Friday was something I'd tease my children about. When they were 9 or 10, we got cable TV and The Cartoon Network became part of our lives. When I was that age, Saturday Morning Cartoons was all we had. Now my kids had a channel entirely devoted to zany animated entertainment. Granted some of those programs were clever and entertaining at any age. So, it wasn't too bad to watch them together.

The conflict was that as I was turning into and avid fisherman, cable also had an outdoorsy channel. I can't remember what it was officially called but it was not quite a sports channel, not quite a nature channel. I'll dig deeper into that someday and see if I can get the official information on it.

On Friday evening, this as yet un-named outdoorsy channel would run back-to-back-to-back episodes of shows like Bill Dance Outdoors, In Fisherman with Al Lindner, Fishing Tips with Roland Martin, Shaw Grigsby and Larry Nixon. The kids would get all wound up to watch Cartoon, Cartoon Friday but to their dismay I'd tell them we were going to watch Fishin' Fishin' Friday. They are in their 30s now and they still talk about Fishin' Fishin' Friday.
