My Musical Evolution – Part 376 21st Century Shadow Of The Moon

Blackmores Night Shadow Of The MoonThe timing of my involvement with Blackmore’s Night was similar to my discovery of Ray Lynch. I was introduced to their second albums. I then bought their first albums and very soon after they released their third albums. So their was plenty of new stuff to absorb at first.

I’ll admit that Under A Violet Moon is still my favorite with Shadow Of The Moon very close behind.  Maybe it was how I was first introduced to Blackmore’s Night. Maybe it is the psychological linkage to all that fishing that summer. Shadow Of The Moon has some really good stuff too but it never quite absorbed me like their follow up. I actually bought a CD of actual Medieval Chamber music because of Blackmore’s Night. It is interesting but not as easy to listen to. I recognized a couple of themes they borrowed.

I suppose artistically it makes sense. Your first attempt has so much passion and love because it is all brand new like a first kiss. The second builds on that and draws upon the experience to improve technically as everybody has figured out what they need to do. After that there is the risk of trying too hard to out do yourself or boredom sets in.

We’ll talk about Blackmore’s Night’s next few releases in a few days so now enjoy these cuts from Shadow Of The Moon.
